The Alumni Association recognized early on that it could give back to the camp by starting up a bursary to be awarded to a current staff member who is going into post-secondary studies following the summer. We thought this would help the camp hang on to good, experienced people for a little longer.
We think it might be working, and we are very pleased to be doing it again for the 29th time.
The submissions, as always, were excellent and the Selection Committee’s decision was a tough one.
This year’s recipient is Allanna MacKenzie.
HSR has been part of Allanna’s summer for six of her 12 years in Scouting, and her application demonstrated a great interest in volunteering (both in Scouting and her community), learning new skills and sharing them with others.
She will begin studies in Biomedical Science at the University of Guelph in a few weeks and already has plans to apply to medical school, with ambitions to become a surgeon.
Please join me in congratulating Allanna, the winner of the 2016 HSR Staff Alumni Association Bursary Award.
